We try to use this format to help every customer commercial or residential evaluate their security needs and decide what to do. </p> <p>There are basically four things you are trying to protect:</p> <ol> <li>Possessions</li> <li>Privacy</li> <li>Personal Space</li> <li>Yourself/Family</li> </ol> <p><strong>Why You Are Vulnerable</strong><br> <strong> TIME:</strong> Speed of entry speed of exit. These are two of the most important elements to consider. The longer it takes to gain entry is in your favor. Once someone has gained entry, the speed of exit is extremely important. Example: if someone has entered through a window, they want to exit through a door or doors. They want as many and quick exits as they can so someone doesn t get between them and their escape. Also, if they have entered through a window on one level then go to another level, they need to not have to go back to the original point of entry.</p> <p> <strong>TOOLS:</strong> The more it requires in the form of tools pry bars, hammers, saws, vehicles, etc.--again the odds increase in your favor.</p> <p> <strong>MOTIVATION:</strong> This is a tough area to try to out-guess. In a residential situation, there are usually two motivators:</p> <ul> <li>Profit</li> <li>Perversion</li> </ul> <p>You don t know if the burglar wants to steal something to sell or if they want to harm or attack you. If you can, place physical barriers (doors/window guards) between you and the bad guy.</p> <p> <strong>OPPORTUNITY:</strong> Here we are trying to deal with levels of temptation. If there is no opportunity, then there is little risk of something happening. What we try to address is hardening the area: an open garage door presents an opportunity; same as an unlocked door or window; or a dark porch, answering the door without knowing who is there.</p> <p> <strong>REWARD:</strong> What is it going to benefit the bad guy cash, TV s/VCR, guns, jewelry, etc. He thinks like a banker--risk versus reward.</p> <p><strong>What You Are Trying To Protect</strong><br> POSSESSIONS: Heirlooms, momentos, personal treasures; items of great value to you.&nbsp; You worked hard to aquire them and don't want to lose them.</p> <p> PRIVACY: No one likes to have a stranger to have access to our homes or lives.</p> <p>PERSONAL SPACE: Like privacy, we do not like having someone uninvited into our personal space. It leaves you feeling violated.</p> <p>YOURSELF: You and your loved ones are what you want to protect the most.
